TECH TIPS

QUICK TIP
If you dump a cup of coffee on your keyboard and it looks like it is finished, you could try a last ditch effort to try and revive it. Go down to your local chemist and get a bottle of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. Unplug your keyboard from the computer and take it outside. Dump the whole bottle of alcohol over the keys and swish it around. Then dump it out and shake the keyboard until most of the liquid is gone. Let the keyboard dry over night before you plug it in to see if it works. The alcohol evaporates and doesn't leave any thing behind and so it shouldn't hurt any of the components and it should clean out any coffee left in the keyboard.
REMEMBER this is an only after you have decided to replace the keyboard anyway.
I came across this tip well before Alan's experience as outlined in Mere Male.

THESAURUS AND DICTIONARY
Hank van Tongeren forwarded this tip.
Word Web is a very good thesaurus and dictionary, which you can download for free. Installing it leaves a small icon on the taskbar. All one needs to do is put your cursor in a word, click the icon and a heap of useful information becomes available.  It can be used to look up words from almost any Windows program, showing definitions, synonyms, related words and more.
It's so much better than the Microsoft Thesaurus. You should investigate and try it out.
For details go to http://wordweb.info and that free download is at http://wordweb.info/free/

BONZER LINKS
Bonzer! has two pages of Links.
Mary Jo Gray looks after the page of current links and she would be grateful for your suggestions—what you consider might be of interest to our Bonzer! people for the month.
You'll find this page under the heading of Sites for Sore Eyes on the “Contents” page.

A list of links with website logos displays more permanent links thought to be of interest to our Bonzer! people. The links also serve to make Bonzer! more widely known as these links are usually a joint linking arrangement.
Please send Alan or me any suggestions you have for this page.
You find this page under the heading of Logo Links on the “Contents” page under the subheading “References”

DEFRAGGING
Microsoft recommends frequent defragging and I have been doing so from time to time. Computer experts highly recommend you do so each week. My approach has been more haphazard, but when I happened to check the state of my computer via the PC Pitstop program I referred to in last month's Tech-Tips I was surprised to find that my hard drive was very much in need for defragging having reached 29% and computer speed being down as a result. I was also having some other problems as well. The cleanup made a major difference and suggests you are more diligent than I have been.
